Food was great and came out fairly quickly and coffee was lovely, place was very busy when we went in. Staff were friendly and chatty. Overall cannot fault anything on this visit. Will be back. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Price per person: £10–20

Abode: a house or home. That is exactly what I felt when I stepped into Abode during a work trip to Northern Ireland. It had already been a long journey—New York to Boston and then across the Atlantic—and I had arrived hungry. I’m not one for airline food, so by the time I reached town I hadn’t eaten since the day before. All I wanted was something simple: tea and a small meal to steady myself. I quickly discovered something very different from New York dining hours: a quiet pause between lunch and dinner when kitchens simply stop serving food. I had arrived at that exact in-between moment. Lucky me. I tried a few places, each kindly but firmly closed to food service. By the time I walked into Abode, I was a bit defeated. I apologized as I asked the young woman behind the counter if they might still be serving anything. She smiled gently and explained that lunch had just finished. I told her I completely understood and asked if there might be a nearby market where I could grab something small. I mentioned—almost as an aside—that I hadn’t eaten since yesterday. She and another young server began discussing possibilities, trying to think of a solution. As they talked, a man sitting at one of the tables looked up and said simply, “What would you like? We can make this happen.” I nearly teared up. They made me a sandwich, even adjusting it to leave off a sauce I mentioned I didn’t care for. Such a small kindness, yet in that moment it felt enormous. I sat there in the warm, welcoming atmosphere, finally filling my belly and letting the fatigue of travel settle. The sandwich was delicious and felt created with care. As I listened to the quiet conversation behind the counter, I realized something even sweeter: this was a family business. The young woman helping me was the daughter, and the man who had spoken up was the father—the owner. It made perfect sense. Places like that carry something you can feel immediately: care, generosity, and the willingness to see the person in front of you rather than the rulebook behind the counter. First class my family love this place.
A really great positive place for breakfast, lunch, or some coffee and fantastic home baked sweet bakes.
You can be assured that the atmosphere, hygiene and quality of food has not declined, which often happens in Cafes.
Very welcoming staff and a lovelly atmosphere. Try their home made banana bread breakfast- delicious and their carrot cake!
