UberEats delivery order on Friday, August 7: Party jollof meal, fisherman rice, egusi soup, efo riro, suya wings, 2 sets of meat pies and 2 sets of plantain. I can’t speak to the egusi or efo riro meal or suya wings because I didn’t eat those, but the jollof rice is the worst I’ve ever tasted in my entire life as a Nigerian that constantly eats jollof from various restaurants/vendors. It had this kerosene after taste - I can’t explain it well but it was awful! Then the plantain was soggy. They basically gave us overripe burned fried plantain. The fisherman rice was stale/spoiled and was completely inedible. The 2 rice dishes and plantain had to be trashed. My sister mentioned she knows the owner and it’s absolutely horrendous that because it was an UberEats order and she didn’t call the said owner, we got trash food. I’m beyond livid especially after spending over $200 on that entire order. Never ever again - and if you value good food, just avoid them. Edit to reply the business: You can take accountability, or you can continue gaslighting customers. I have zero reason to leave a 1-star review if I received great food. My review was detailed and based on the food I personally ate: the jollof rice tasted awful, the fisherman rice tasted stale, and the plantain was soggy and charred. Bringing up another restaurant review, while taking my words out of context, is grasping at straws. My past reviews also show that I give credit when food is good. In that same week, I visited a Jamaican restaurant, ordered plantain, and it was not soggy or charred. So no, the issue is not that I do not understand ripe plantain. Telling a Nigerian customer what they “should know” instead of addressing the complaint is dismissive and unprofessional. As a Nigerian business, excellence and accountability should matter. Instead, your response came across as defensive, disrespectful, and full of gaslighting. I stand by my review. The food I received was unacceptable, and your response tells current and future customers everything they need to know about how you handle criticism. (It appears the owner is reporting reviews that they don’t like, instead of making better food, they are making a poor attempt at trying to silence reviewers). Hi there we make rice fresh and the fisherman market rice is always cooked to order so there is zero opportunity for it to get spoilt or stale. We are not a food counter that cooks in bulk and food sits out. Rest assured calling in makes no difference, with all due respect, as chef/owner I am way too busy on the line to track whose food is getting made as we take care of every order the same way if it is your sister or Burna Boy. We served the exact same jollof to all our guests that night and did not receive any other complaints. In fact, we seem to have a couple other reviews happy about their experience. We have been using mesquite wood charcoal which we think is a great smoke flavour. Im sorry you didn't enjoy the texture of your plantains - very ripe plantains are softer and can taste "soggy" but also be a delicious custardy texture to someone else. As a Nigerian, you should know there are different levels of ripeness and while people may have their preferred point, thats not something we can fully control and customize as plantains ripen. It sounds like while you didn't like the 2 dishes, the rest of the order was eaten by others. We would love to make everyone happy but your feedback seems wierdly disconnected. Looking at your other reviews, you left another Nigerian restaurant one star because they wouldnt deliver far enough on Doordash, our community can never grow with bad bellies. Please accept our apology that you did not enjoy your meal.
