We ate several times at Kate’s establishment. The food was home-cooked, incredibly tasty, at a very reasonable price. Most important for me, with my several lactose allergy, was that she actually caters for lactose intolerants, using alternatives to dairy when possible. I highly recommend it!!

Visited the Ariundle Centre today for lunch, and sadly, it was a very disappointing experience. Walking in felt like stepping into a time machine — the place is dated beyond belief. The large open-plan seating area was so dimly lit, with only one small lamp providing light, giving the whole place a rather dull and unwelcoming feel. To get to the serving area and bar, you pass through another room which looked disorganised and untidy. We ordered two toasties — basic cheese, with an option to add any extra filling for around £1.50. My cheese and tuna toastie came to £8, which already felt quite steep. We chose a table near the log burner, hoping to warm up, but there was barely any heat coming from it. The table was sticky and covered in crumbs, and a vase of dead heather was shedding bits into the nearby sugar bowls — not a great look. When the food arrived, things went from bad to worse. The toasties were made with two thin slices of supermarket bread and a bit of melted cheese, accompanied by just three crisps on the side — no salad, garnish, or presentation at all. My loose-leaf tea was the only redeeming part of the meal, though the fine china teacup was stained and didn’t appear very clean. Two disappointing toasties, one tea, and one lager came to £20. Overall, a wholly regrettable experience that I won’t be repeating. Service: 2
