I came here with my girlfriend for dinner on saturday 5th September. Normally at buffets, im a 3-4 plate kinda guy. Easily. But here? I had one plate. Then i got my second plate, had just 2 bites. Then bam. I find myself in the bathroom throwing my guts up. I text my girlfriend to inform the staff, as i wanted to keep this descreet for their benefit, rather than discussing it in the middle of the restaurant. The manager came in, saw for himself that I was being sick. And simply said 'ok, ok'. Then he just left. Nothing else was said. And when I finally returned from the bathroom, trying to get his attention again, he simply walked straight past me. Twice. Doing his absolute best to avoid eye contact, despite walking within a 2 foot radius of me. Apon going to the front desk, we were met by a staff member who proceeded to tell me that no one else had been sick, and that if it was caused by their food, that i wouldn't have been sick so soon. This is unacceptable, as i was absolutely fine before stepping foot in their restaurant. Zero empathy. Zero accountability. Zero comprehension that it could possibly have been caused by their food. As I also worked in hospitality for a very long time, I tried to meet them in the middle. Saying that due to my girlfriend being fine, and that it was only myself that was ill, I will happily pay for her meal. But I will not be paying for my own meal. This was still met with denial and no accountability. But I was adamant that my compromise was more than fair. In hindsight? I shouldn't have been descreet. I should have caused a scene. Made others people aware. Customer service here needs drastic improvement. Safe to say that I will not be returning. Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 3

It's been a few years, but I’ve always meant to share this experience. Although I didn’t dine at Aroma Restaurant in Basildon, I feel compelled to give them 5 stars for their exceptional staff. During my mum's final days at Basildon Hospital, she had a craving for egg drop corn soup. We searched and found Aroma Restaurant, but since it's a buffet, they didn’t offer takeout and had no containers for it. However, one of the staff members went above and beyond—emptying their own lunch container, washing it, and filling it with soup for us. To our surprise, they didn’t charge us a penny, as they didn’t have a price for a single serving of soup to go. They could have easily dismissed us from the start, but their kindness and generosity made all the difference during a difficult time.
