This café has gone so far downhill in such a short space of time... A kids meal is limited to 5 chips... 5! I questioned the ridiculously meager prison style portion that was provided to my son and was told that they are under strict instructions to provide only 5 chips per kids meal. 5. All of the prices of everything have jumped up hugely in the last month or two. Alarm bells should have rung when we arrived at the cafe at 12:10 on a Sunday and that we were the only ones here! We used to come here regularly but sadly will absolutely not return. The service is woeful too... Such grumpy (borderline insulting) staff. My honest advice is for everyone to avoid this cafe and believe the 1.5 star average rating. If the staff were actually nice then maybe you could forgive the completely laughable portion and quality concerns. But when you have a cafe where the food is awful, the portion size is laughable, the staff are rude and the atmosphere is non-existent, why would anyone ever come here? ASDA should shut this place down to avoid further tarnishing their brand. Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1

Oh, what an absolute delight my trip to the Asda Café in Basildon was. I strolled in at the scandalously early hour of 10:35am, daring to think I could enjoy a simple breakfast with my daughter. Silly me! I made the outrageous request for pancakes with berries and maple syrup — you know, the item clearly listed under breakfast. But fear not, the staff quickly corrected my foolish assumption by informing me that this breakfast item is actually part of the lunch menu and therefore strictly unavailable until after 12. Obviously. Even better, the board proudly displayed crumpets and various other goodies which, naturally, we also couldn’t have. Why? Because they magically transform into pumpkins before noon, apparently. The explanation? A breezy, “Oh no, it’s after 12 o’clock.” Crystal clear. Truly inspirational customer service. No wonder places like this are sprinting downhill — they’re clearly committed to the journey. Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1

Came in and was told they weren’t heating up sandwiches anymore despite still being open. Got my Son the £1 kids meal and myself a drink. Didn’t have anything to eat myself as no cold sandwich options for adults. Staff member seemed miserable and the whole experience was uncomfortable. Don’t recommend. Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1
