We visited Ayeeyo’s Kitchen yesterday, and before going, we were honestly a little sceptical. They had around 168 reviews, and almost every single one was incredibly positive. We were wondering, “How can so many people all give such good reviews?” But once we went there, we completely understood why. When we arrived, the restaurant was fairly quiet, with only a couple of other customers. As soon as we opened the door, a lovely lady immediately stood up, welcomed us with such warmth, asked how we were, and invited us to take a seat. From the very beginning, it felt less like walking into a restaurant and more like being welcomed into a friend’s home. The service throughout was incredibly kind, polite and genuine. And the food was absolutely beautiful. The lamb was so tender it almost melted in my mouth. Everything we had was full of flavour and clearly prepared with care. By the time we left, it wasn’t just our stomachs that were full, our hearts were full too. It was genuinely one of those dining experiences where the hospitality stays with you just as much as the food. I even mentioned to her that we had been curious about how almost everyone had given them five stars. Her response said everything about the kind of people they are. Instead of taking credit for their food or their service, she simply said that the customers who come there are always very kind. She gave all the credit to the customers. That humility, combined with the food and the hospitality, made the whole experience even more special. Now I completely understand why people keep leaving five-star reviews and I’m very happy to add mine too. If you are visiting Cardiff, I genuinely recommend having at least one meal at Ayeeyo’s Kitchen. It’s not just somewhere to eat; it’s an experience worth having. First time there, and the food did not disappoint! We ordered the Ayeeyo's Signature slow cooked lamb with rice and salad. It was beautiful. The spices were just right, the rice was aromatic and the salad was perfectly dressed. The lovely chef was friendly and asked for feedback. We also ordered Somali tea, delicious and uniquely flavoured, one cup is not enough! I would absolutely recommend Ayeeyo's Kitchen for Somali food that hits the spot.
