Balboa — Great Food, Unfortunately Not a Knockout We stopped at Balboa for an evening meal after a day of sightseeing in Montreal. The name immediately caught my attention—being a huge Rocky fan, I was hoping for a little “Yo, Adrian!” kind of experience. Unfortunately, the reality was nowhere near the movie. We ordered a Margarita pizza, another white pizza, a local Quebec beer, and a drink for my wife. The food itself was hot, fresh, high-quality, and genuinely tasty. Unfortunately, the service and atmosphere made the experience much less enjoyable. It honestly looked like half the staff had called out. One waitress was running around trying to keep up with every table, a young gentleman was simultaneously mixing drinks, and another employee was doing her best to manage seating. The whole place felt extremely hectic, loud, and overcrowded. My wife’s drink was also forgotten, and our food took roughly 20–30 minutes to arrive. I completely understand that restaurants get slammed, and I wouldn’t mind the chaos as much at a casual fast-food spot. But when you’re spending $100+ on what is essentially two 12-inch pizzas and drinks, expectations naturally go up. At that price point, I expect the experience to be part of the meal—not something I have to fight through. The food deserves credit because it was really good. Unfortunately, the service and chaotic atmosphere overshadowed it for us. Not a bad meal, but definitely not a knockout. Sadly, we won’t be coming back. We visited Balboa Pizzeria for dinner. Although we didn’t have a prior reservation, the staff arranged a table for us very quickly. We had the All The Meats Pizza. This is the most flavorful all meats pizza we have had. Perfect this crust, and amazing taste. The service, ambience and staff are great at Balboa. Would highly recommend a meal for anyone looking for a place to dine at, at Old Port, Montreal. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $90–100 Vegetarian options: Great veggie options
