Impeccable service by Alexandrina, Kiran and the doorman Trevor they all were amazing. We were here the other day to celebrate our close friends’s leaving do. It was a great evening and all of them made it memorable by bringing a complementary dessert plate for both of my friends. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Price per person: £100+

We stopped by Bar Americain in Soho for a few cocktails at the end of the evening. Similar to some of the other classic London establishments, it feels like a place that is slightly past its prime. The whole concept is built around an old-school, elegant atmosphere, but at times it feels more like a carefully created show than a truly refined institution. The staff are dressed smartly, and the setting definitely tries to evoke a classic era. At the same time, the team represents modern London — which is perfectly fine and actually makes the place feel more relaxed. Despite the elegant appearance, there is no strict dress code or sense that you need to fit a certain image, so you can comfortably walk in wearing almost anything. The biggest downside is the pricing. The cocktails are very expensive, even by Soho standards, and there are definitely more creative cocktail bars nearby offering better value for money. That said, if you are looking for a classic London experience, a historic-feeling venue, and a more traditional cocktail atmosphere, Bar Americain is still worth a visit. Just don’t expect a truly exclusive old-world establishment — it is more of a modern interpretation of one.
