Chose this for an anniversary meal and we were very disappointed, and dont know how it has such a high rating. Chose the tasting menu with wine pairing and can best describe the meal as a cold buffet with a bit of warmed meat in the middle served with very small glasses of poor quality wine. cold soup starter was bland, crab dish did not taste of crab the main flavor was the new potatoes chopped into it. Pork dish was under seasoned in our opinion but a bit of pork belly was the highlight of the meal. Two deserts were unmemorable and the desert wine served was such a small amount it almost evaporated in the glass before we could drink it. Even the coffee was very poor quality. Service was good by pleasant staff but overall the quality of food and wine could not justify the £240 bill for two. Hoped this would have been a regular stop but would not return. Food: 2 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 2 Price per person: £100+

My apologies if on this occasion we fell short of your expectation.It's a shame that you didn't bring this to our attention on the evening, as with all our taster menu evenings Mark does come round to the guests to thank them and to chat through the menu and I know he will be disappointed to hear this review.However I can promise that none of our produce (food or wine) is "cheap" we source the very best for the price point.I do hope you will give us another try at some point.Kind regardsThe Base team

Base restaurant in a word … DIVINE. A notch above all other local restaurants. A standout dining experience in Ulverston tucked away from the main centre. It’s a proper foodies, little hidden gem. It’s also opposite the most quaint community garden at Forde Park - if you go at lunchtime the gate will be open. A nice stroll around the quaint garden for 10-15mins before /after in the summer months. We’ve been trying for 4 years to visit to coincide with the tasting menu but every year it’s either full or the dates clash in July. My partner & I both ordered the chicken Kiev with serious slithers of black truffle on a pomme purée base and gorgeous greens for lunch. I would go as far as to say … If I had to pick a last supper this would be it. A simple dish elevated by a talented chef. I wish we lived closer to this restaurant as I would be a regular. Thank you to the staff / owner too as they couldn’t have been more welcoming, very relaxed people whilst being attentive to every detail.
