4/5 Couldn’t comment on food, £5.50 for a normal red bull expensive but I’ll pay it considering the decor of the place. Atmosphere 5/5 busy on a Tuesday evening. Service 4/5 - tables have a glass trim around table I asked for it to be moved, waitress said it doesn’t move (which was a lie) I showed the waitress it literally does then the waitress changed it to we can’t move it as we don’t have a place to put it. We were playing poker people on the other side couldn’t see the cards due to this hence why I asked for it to be moved, I would’ve given 5/5 if you said we cannot move it instead of lying. Enjoyed everything, would go back. A whole parking lot at the back. Meal type: Dinner Price per person: £10–20 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 5 Dietary restrictions: Halal

The decor, presentation, and overall vibe of the restaurant are genuinely impressive. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives end. There was a constant buzzing sound coming from one of the speakers that the staff were unable to resolve. It completely affected the atmosphere for my friends and me, making it difficult to enjoy conversations because it sounded like constant in-ear tinnitus. The biggest disappointment, however, was the food. I’m not sure whether some reviewers are being served a different standard of food or whether expectations have simply been exaggerated, but our experience was far from what was advertised. The food was genuinely disappointing. The Chicken Checkmate was not served with vegetables as described on the menu. Instead of steamed broccoli, it came with a small and unusual portion of salad. The Basrah Roll, which was supposed to contain juicy crab meat, appeared to use inexpensive seafood sticks instead and did not taste good. The Beef Steak Roll was served raw, which in itself is not an issue, but the beef was already starting to discolour, suggesting it had been cut and left sitting for some time. After one bite, it had an unpleasant sour taste. The Beefed Up dish should have been one of the simplest dishes to execute, but again the beef was already drying out and lacked flavour. Even the sushi sauce was just plain soy sauce. For a restaurant focused on sushi, it was disappointing that a simple sauce combination of soy sauce, mirin, and rice vinegar wasn’t prepared. Another issue was the quality of the ingredients and the value for money. The wasabi appeared to be made from powder rather than freshly prepared, which was disappointing considering the price point. For the cost of the dishes, many items felt like they were made using cheaper alternatives, and several descriptions on the menu did not match what was actually served. The Basrah Roll, for example, was described as containing crab meat but appeared to use seafood sticks instead. The sushi rolls also did not contain the fresh mango described in the menu. Instead, there seemed to only be a mango-style drizzle on top, which is very different from having mango as an ingredient inside the roll. This added to the feeling that the food was being presented differently from what was advertised. Service was another major issue. The food took a long time to arrive, and the servers were not attentive. Nobody came over to check how we were finding the meal — I had to actively try to get their attention. Considering we drove nearly 80 minutes to visit this restaurant, it was a huge waste of time, money, and effort. Overall, this was one of the most disappointing restaurant experiences I’ve had. The expectations were high, but the food and service fell far below them, leaving a very negative impression. Meal type: Dinner Price per person: £30–40 Food: 1 Service: 2 Atmosphere: 4

Basrah Lounge is easily one of the best spots in Manchester for sushi. The sushi was incredibly fresh, beautifully presented, and packed with flavour. Every bite tasted high quality, and you can really tell the chefs take pride in what they serve. The variety on the menu is great too, with something for both sushi lovers and people trying it for the first time. The service was just as impressive as the food. The staff were welcoming, attentive, and made sure everything was perfect throughout the visit. They were friendly, quick, and very professional, which made the whole experience even better. Great sushi, excellent service, and a really nice atmosphere. I’ll definitely be coming back and highly recommend Basrah Lounge to anyone looking for quality food and a great dining experience in Manchester. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
