We were 4 people, including my young child. We ordered 3 starters and 4 mains and paid around £150. The service was extremely poor. We waited around 30 minutes to get proper attention and had to repeatedly leave our table to find staff. Even water arrived very late. Cutlery wasn’t provided properly, dirty plates were left on the table, and some food was handed to us rather than properly served. We also had a baby with us and weren’t offered a high chair.
The food was disappointing too. The rice was very dry, the salad appeared old/leftover and came without dressing or sauce, and the fish did not taste fresh. After eating the fish, my child became unwell, which was extremely concerning for us as parents. I cannot say with certainty what caused this, but it made the experience even more upsetting.
It was also my brother’s birthday. We ordered a single piece of birthday cake for £11, but it never arrived. Eventually we decided to leave because the birthday surprise had been completely ruined. There wasn’t even a proper apology.
I want to stress that we were actually very understanding. We know restaurants can be busy and mistakes happen. We didn’t complain aggressively or treat the staff badly. We waited patiently and even helped tidy the table ourselves because we could see they were busy.
But there is a limit. What made this experience so bad was not simply the mistakes — it was the complete lack of apology, compromise or effort to make things right. When we calmly explained our frustration, the response from staff was rude and dismissive.
We were also extremely uncomfortable when staff laughed at my husband because he is Arab while he was responding in English. This was completely inappropriate and unprofessional.
For a restaurant charging around £150 for four people, we expected basic hospitality, decent food and respectful service. Unfortunately, we received none of these.
This was supposed to be a birthday celebration and a chance to introduce my friends to Levantine food. Instead, it became one of our worst dining experiences in Edinburgh.
I would not return and unfortunately cannot recommend this restaurant.
