Had a lovely evening at Bench, the food was excellent with fresh seasonal ingredients, the venue’s really cosy and the staff were so attentive. We had an issue with flies on the outside terrace, but were kindly moved inside. We could definitely see why they’re in the Good Food Guide, I’m still thinking about their Courgette, Chickpea and Preserved Lemon Salad. I also stole a couple of my friend’s Fried Potatoes and Aioli and they were gorgeous, they looked very unassuming but were crispy and packed with flavour! With First Table our food bill was half price, which made a significant difference to the bill. Mine would’ve been around £52 but was £31 instead (drinks aren’t included). Would highly recommend it if you can grab one of their slots before they book up on the app, it’s only a £3-£4pp service charge to reserve a table. First time visit, came on a whim on Thursday night not really knowing anything about it hoping we could get a table and had a really pleasant evening. Small intimate dining experience with large central dining space and a few spaces around the edge, felt like a large family dinner. We had 6 plates to share between two of us with dessert and two cocktails which was a bit much in volume, would probably go 5 dishes next time but every one tasted great, not going to pick any out as the menu changes so often by the sounds of it but it's not a complex menu or fine dining so much as just really good food. Server was really pleasant, some people in the reviews seem to dislike the style of service with plates arriving whenever they're ready but I found food randomly popping up every now and again quite pleasant, again made it feel very homely to me and we were never waiting long. Eating out is expensive anywhere these days so was pleasantly surprised by the bill, cheaper than some local equivalents. Overall we had a really pleasant time, left feeling full, happy and relaxed- what else is there? Will be coming back. A great place to eat. Wonderful, creative food and friendly staff. If you’re lucky enough to go in when they have the aubergine schnitzel style dish on, definitely give it a go. I’m still trying to work out how it was made so well. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Price per person: £40–50
