5 Stars – Based Purely on the Food I’m giving The Bird in Hand 5 stars purely for the food, because it truly was outstanding. Compliments to the chef! I highly recommend the starter platter to share – it was absolutely delicious – and the satay chicken skewers were divine. The young barman was also very polite, kind, and welcoming, and he made wonderful passion fruit martinis. We also enjoyed some lovely Prosecco. I have visited The Bird in Hand before, and at the time I felt the atmosphere was a little awkward, almost as though I wasn’t particularly welcome. My friend chose the pub to celebrate her birthday, and I’m glad she did, because again the food was fantastic. However, I do feel it’s worth mentioning that the two ladies on the bar and taking orders did not seem very welcoming. To be totally honest, we found them a little abrupt and somewhat rude, which was disappointing. It’s a shame, because I have often heard wonderful things about The Bird in Hand, and I completely agree that the food is out of this world. But personally, I feel it has more of a locals’ pub atmosphere, where regulars seem more welcomed than visitors. Unfortunately, we didn’t get that warm welcome ourselves.
