We had an amazing experience at Bulrush for our anniversary. After a few somewhat disappointing experiences at other highly regarded restaurants on Bristol, we were hesitant to book, but decided we should give it a go. The food was simply incredible. Easily in one of our top 5 meals of all time. My wife doesn't normally love the desert course, but here she thought it may have been her favorite. The wine pairing was excellent as well. All paired perfectly with their respective course. The service was also paced really well we thought. 2 hours slipped by without us even realising which is something we always appreciate while dining out. Our server was knowledgeable and attentive without being overbearing. We'll certainly be back to bulrush for future special occasions. I did knock a star off under atmosphere, mainly because the restaurant wasn't very full, so you didn't have the ambiance of a bustling place, but that's a bit out of their control. That doesn't impact my overall rating though as we go to restaurants that have a star for the food first and foremost, and this one certainly deserves theirs. We had an amazing experience at Bulrush. Unbelievable food that really comes across as great value for money. We were there for about 3 hours, but absolutely it flew by. All of the courses were delicious, but our particular favourites were: the cheddar Danish swirl with bread and roasted yeast butter, the scallop with mushroom XO sauce, and (the best of the best) was the strawberry dessert with set custard and cajeta. The menu did a wonderful job of tying together comforting, familiar elements with adventurous flavours and textures. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Price per person: £90–100

We’ve been going back to Bulrush for 7 years. Unfortunately, this one will be our last one. Our experience was ruined by several factors:. We acknowledge that it was a hot day. This is the 3rd heatwave this year already. They should have been prepared. We were sat at a table in a corner with no ventilation by a big window, it felt like a sauna, we asked for a change of table, but we were brought a fan instead. This was a little too late. The table shouldn’t be sold in those conditions for the wellbeing of your customers and their experience. The wine was brought to us “at room” temperature, this was 31 *C. We asked for it to be chilled. When the bottle was brought to us again, it was already opened, and at the exact same temperature. When I asked why the bottle was opened already, the waiter said it was how they do it there. False and rude answer. This is not acceptable and never had happened to us before. We sent it back for an unopened chilled bottle. It returned the same opened bottle slightly chilled. In terms of the food, we felt that the portions were on the xsmall size, but the bread was plentiful. Felt like we were in a bakery sampling different types of bread ( stuffed with onion, fried…) with some nibbles on the side. Very disappointing the way the standards have dropped in this place.
