We were really late for our reservation due to an unexpected traffic jam. We let the restaurant know as soon as we realised we wouldn't be on time, and even though the evening was fully booked they were really lovely about keeping our table and serving us quickly so we could finish before they needed it for the next booking. So glad they did squeeze us in as the food was delicious - gorgeous unusual vegetarian/vegan dishes with their own distinctive flavours. The staff were lovely too. Would highly recommend! Meal type: Dinner Price per person: £20–30 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Vegetarian offerings: Menu is all vegetarian Dietary restrictions: Most main dishes could be made vegan and several puddings were vegan too

I want to start by saying how lovely and friendly all of the staff we encountered were :) I really don't like to leave a negative review but I really hope the feedback is constructive. We were really looking forward to coming to Cafe Roya as we've wanted to come for years, so we came on our anniversary. The starters were really delicious and exactly what we had be hoping for...unusual flavours and really nice (especially the minted mushy peas!). Unfortuantely we found the mains to be just ok, maybe it's what we ordered but my partner said the burrito was one of the worst he's had and quite dull, he also felt the salad portions were tiny. The Thali I had again was just ok, it seemed to be lacking in any real flavour apart from heat and salt. The Burrito really could have done with some sour cream and the Thali some kind of cucumber raita. We felt the price paid for the quality of meal we had was excessive. I've been vegetarian for 20 years and have eaten some amazing meals at veggie and non veggie resturants for a fraction of the price. We were also mind blown when the bill arrived and we were charged £5 for a bottle of water? We thought that mark up seemed extraordinarily high. I'm so sad to say that we left a little dissapointed. Like I say maybe we made the wrong choices as the starters were fab just let down by the laclustre mains and cost, for these prices we had hoped for a meal to remember. My new favorite restaurant in UK! An absolute delight for vegetarians with the most unique, flavorsome dishes. Even meat lovers should surely like this place. While their menu is the most amazing part, the ambience & courteous staff also match the standard, giving a great experience overall. Will definitely be going back soon.
