Delicious food in a really relaxed atmosphere. Scallops in burnt chilli and anchovy butter were amazing. My partner had the Arancini and lobster risotto which were exceptional. Table of five in there at the same time were loud which was irritating but not the fault of the restaurant!

Very poor dining experience overall. The Catch is advertised in their website as a 3-in-1 shop, i.e. fish mongers, restaurant and cookery school with 0 photos from their space posted in their site. I only trusted the positive reviews and booked a table for 2 for dinner last Saturday. When we arrived at The Catch we were unpleasantly surprised to see what this place was about, i.e. a tiny room with 4 walls, 2 small tall tables and 1 narrow tall counter on the side by a window overlooking a wall, supported by tall hard-surfaced bar stools. We were offered to sit at the counter with no other options available. We felt literally squeezed on a ~40cm-wide countertop, we were hardly able to move our arms to eat, siting on these stools for dinner felt pretty uncomfortable. We ordered the Fruit De Mar platter, food quantity seemed decent, but it lacked any particular flavour, lobster seemed rubbery and tasteless. The ventilation of the space was felt quite poor, smelly odours from the kitchen area seemed spread all over the place due the open-plan layout of the space, after the dinner we found out all our clothes had caught an unbearable smell from the restaurant. Cost-wise, for this bizarre dining experience at The Catch in Plymouth we were charged what we normally pay for a 5* luxury seafood restaurant in London. I'm not in a position to know how this place performs as a fish mongers or cookery school, but in the nicest sense, if I had to score it as a restaurant then I'd have to give a low score for a number of reasons based on our dining experience on that night, clearly nowhere 5* I read from other reviews.
