There is only one day to visit Kings Road and that’s Saturday. It’s been like that since the 1960s when it was the place to be seen either out shopping for flared trousers or in your sports car in what looked like a parade of the best cars in London. Cool Britannia. and“ be British buy British “ a global export trend rocketed to fame by British pop music and art. The Chelsea Potter retains that celebratory 1960s look in a one room saloon where other pubs had a public room for workers and a saloon for the well dressed with higher prices. It was very unusual to have one room with a long bar something that must have appealed to past patrons such as Jimi Hendrix and the Rolling Stones. Other famous pubs at that time a walk away are the Six Bells and the Markham Arms a must for a night out with live music “ mods” and “ mini skirts”. Today the Chelsea Potter is ideal for both families with young children during the day and drinkers and diners at any time. It was originally the Commercial Tavern and renamed thr Chelsea Potter in 1958 after William de Morgan and the nearby Chelsea Arts Pottery. There were artists living then in the neighbourhood and even a Chelsea Arts Club that still exists further west off the Kings Road. I liked the range of beers and lagers and the long bar.
