Found this pub after a trip to Chester Zoo. Was lovely. Really friendly and chatty staff and amazing food. Has a gorgeous garden with outdoor seating. Really recommend this pub! Price per person: £20–30 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Had my 60th birthday meal at the chesterfield, paid extra £200.00 to hire the room upstairs which was lovely and private. I had a roast lamb which was ok potatoes were cold vegetables were very limited on the plate. The lamb was but the best The service at the table I could not fault a young girl was our waitress for the day and was lovely and looked after us all . However, I cannot say this for the rest of the staff the male op behind the bar was rude impatient and generally had a poor attitude Another member of staff called Annabel was just as rude I understand that they may come back and say that they were busy on that day, which is fine, but manners cost nothing Without disrespect, I think some of the staff need to go back into training On customer service We accepted that the room would be warm As the weather had been Unseasonably hot they did however put 2 air con machine in the room these weren’t working as they had no water in them, we asked several times for water to fill them no one ever came to do this. So what’s the point in these if they don’t work or no one can be bothered to fill them up, The room was uncomfortably warm so we didn’t use the room fully as intended because of this and we had to sit outside after our meal Also upon booking and paying the extra for the room we were told that the bar was open till 11pm on the Sunday as this is what I checked as I made the payment in January But the man from behind the bar had tried to tell us last orders were 8.30pm when I questioned this his reply was Well suppose I will have to stay open then and just walked away. There were 16 people in the party group each spending over £150 if not more on the food and drinks, not asking to be treated in any special way, just more manners and courtesy and you felt like you were being a pain if you asked the staff behind the bar for anything There was a service charge on the bill, which we were happy to pay, but to be honest it should go Direct me to that young girl who was our waitress for the day as she was the only one that has manners What a shame it’s a lovely location Price per person: £100+ Food: 3 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 5

*update*Upon receiving further information, I believe the issue was a guest of yours ordered 2 meals but only expected to pay for one. The 2nd meal, a pizza, was taken off the bill and boxed up for you to take away for free. Hardly a fair review given it wasn't our mistake, and a suitable solution, in your favour, was reached.Thank you for taking the time to leave your review and for choosing to celebrate your 60th birthday with us. I'm pleased to hear you enjoyed the private function room and that your waitress looked after your party so well. I will be sure to pass your kind comments on to her.Sunday was an exceptionally busy day for us. Whilst we always aim to provide friendly service, I appreciate that working efficiently during busy periods can sometimes be perceived differently. However, I was disappointed to read your comments about Annabelle and our barman. Annabelle plays a key role in coordinating service across a busy restaurant and is regularly praised by our guests. Likewise, I believe the comment regarding staying open was intended as light-hearted humour rather than discourtesy, although I appreciate it may not have come across that way.Our advertised Sunday opening hours are until 10:00pm, and this has been the case for some time, so I'm sorry if there was any misunderstanding when the booking was made.I was also surprised by your comments regarding the food. Our kitchen operates at temperatures well in excess of 46°C, and all dishes are plated under heated lamps before being served, so I am unable to explain how your potatoes would have been cold by the time they reached your table. Each of our roast dinners is served with a selection of seasonal vegetables as standard, with additional vegetable side dishes available to order should guests wish.Regarding the temperature in the room, the exceptionally hot weather last week was beyond our control. Following temperatures of around 36°C on the Friday, it had cooled to around 24°C by the Sunday. The air cooling units had simply been left in the room (normally situated in the office for staff use only) following a wedding on the Friday; they are not normally used in the function room and are not provided as part of the room hire, so I apologise if their presence created a different expectation.Finally, I was disappointed that these concerns were not brought directly to our attention after your visit. By choosing to post a Google review before contacting us, there is now very little we can do to rectify the situation or discuss your concerns personally. We always welcome the opportunity to resolve issues wherever possible.It is also a shame that, of the hundreds of guests we serve each week, it is often only the occasional dissatisfied customer who feels motivated to leave a review. We are fortunate to receive many compliments in person from happy guests, and if more of those customers shared their experiences online too, it would paint a much more balanced picture of the service we provide.Thank you again for your feedback, and we wish you all the best.

Very poor Xmas day dinner £95 per head for possibly the worse underwhelming Roast dinner I have had the misfortune to receive. Asked to pay for full meal in advance which included the service charge no surprise as they don’t have to put an effort in, to be honest I would have struggled to tip based on very poor meal we received . They just don’t seem bothered and not bothered by poor reviews.
