This afternoon we decided to go to get some lunch with the MIL. After walking around we decided on coffee club. With us were our two children in our out n about double nippa ... both children asleep.
Firstly when we asked for a table we got given a look as if to say are you serious? But they accommodated us in their very busy (not) inside area.
Secondly both of my children have allergies to milk, egg and soya. I am also breastfeeding one of my children which means I also cannot eat those allergens mentioned. I asked the cafe for a copy of their allergy guide to be told they didn't have one. I was then asked what the allergen was. When I said dairy, egg and soya I basically received a look of disbelief, but the guy behind the bar sent one of the waiting staff to the kitchen to ask what was suitable. So the waiter comes back and says the sandwiches should be ok as no butter and it will be noted no mayo. Some of the salads will also be safe, but if you say what you want I'll just note the allergies... so I asked whether he had checked there was no soya in the bread as is common with bread products, to be told it will be fine it's only baguette ... safe to say we did not eat in there.
Very disappointing. Eating out with allergies is hard enough as it is. I already feel like a burden to the staff and the people I'm with having to wait for me while I check every dish and times like this make me realise why I no longer eat out very often. With allergies at an all time high this kind of blasé attitude just isn't good enough.
Anyway rant over, just avoid if you have allergies, it's not worth the risk.
