An amazing experience with exceptional trained staff to help guide you through a wonderful experience. I have been through other tea experiences, but this one was definitely once in a lifetime. The quality of the tastings was carefully curated to steer you through a unique and delicious range of palate explosions. If you prefer a more intimate setting, request an alcove.

We did tea here while in town for fringe. It was a wonderful experience. The library is gorgeous, quiet and very stately. The service was friendly and efficient. We asked our server for tea recommendations and everything she suggested was spot on. The presentation was beautiful - silver for the food and flatware, china for the tea cup and plates. Everything tasted great - very fresh. It was probably the most elegant tea I’ve ever done. Overall a lovely experience. I’d definitely go again.

The Colonnades at the Signet Library was one of the most wonderful and unexpected discoveries of our entire stay in Edinburgh. It is surprisingly easy to miss from the outside because the sign is rather small, especially considering how central it is located right in the middle of Edinburgh. But that somehow makes it feel even more special — like discovering a hidden gem tucked away behind the busy streets of the city. When you first enter, the entrance area appears relatively modest. But then the staff warmly guide you into the main room, and suddenly you step into what feels almost like a dreamlike historic library. The atmosphere is absolutely breathtaking. The beautiful arches filled with books, the elegant mirrored tables, the soft lighting and the overall grandeur of the room create one of the most beautiful tea room settings we have ever experienced. Every single member of staff was incredibly kind, welcoming and attentive. We originally only wanted to have some scones rather than the full afternoon tea menu, but after seeing the stunning afternoon tea stands with all the beautiful little cakes, we asked whether there might be any possibility to order something smaller. Although this was technically part of the full tea service, the staff still kindly offered to create a smaller selection for us — and what arrived was absolutely wonderful. We were served a beautiful stand filled with exquisite little cakes that looked almost too pretty to eat and tasted just as fantastic as they looked. The scones themselves were also excellent, served with clotted cream and jam, and among the best we had during our stay in Scotland. The tea selection is extraordinary. I had a chai tea, my husband chose a Kenyan tea, and both were beautifully served and absolutely delicious. Everything about the experience felt thoughtful, elegant and perfectly suited to the stunning surroundings. What made this visit so special was not only the beauty of the place or the quality of the food, but also the warmth of the people working there. We had such lovely interactions with the staff and genuinely felt welcomed. In the end, we were almost sad that we discovered The Colonnades only on our final afternoon in Edinburgh. If we had found it earlier in our trip, we would undoubtedly have returned many times and happily spent hours there. A truly unforgettable experience and one of the highlights of our visit to Edinburgh.
