My usual chippy was closed so I thought I would try Mary’s. I purchased 3 lightly battered cod and chips. The cod was dreadful, it was flatter than a piece of plaice and the batter was very thick. It was overcooked and chewy. The chips were okay, but for a meal that cost over £50.00 I feel completely ripped off. If I hadn’t travelled a distance they would have gone back. This used to be a great chippy not any longer. I certainly won’t be going back. Food: 1 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 3

I WISH I HAD READ THE NEGATIVE FEEDBACK BEFORE BUYING THERE AGAIN. USED TO BE GOOD, TEN STARS, NOW NOT EVEN ONE I WOULD GIVE THEM IF YOU COULD. FISH USED TO BE 17mm THICK..NOW 6mm AND FULL OF THICK GREASY BATTER TO MAKE IT LOOK BIGGER. CHIPS VERY POOR. OBVIOUSLY BUSINESS IS DROPPING OFF AS THEY HAD A "FREE FISH AND CHIP DAY"...THE CHIP SHOP I NOW USE SAID THIS IS TO TRY AND GET CUSTOMERS BACK PROBABLY GIVING OUT FOOD LIKE THEY USED TO SELL. I DID NOT GO AS THOUGHT IF FREE THEY WOULD BE EVEN WORSE. I THINK MOST WOULD AGREE..WE WOULD RATHER PAY A BIT MORE FOR DECENT FISH AND CHIPS. UNDERSTANDING THAT WHAT THEY PAY FOR FISH ETC HAS GONE UP AND EXPECT TO COVER THIS AND NOT GET SMALL PORTIONS. Price per person: £10–20 Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1

Mary's 30th birthday, 80s prices. I use this chippy regular as I work over the road, the food is exceptional, the service is brilliant, prep and cooked lovely. Then especially today.... A massive round of applause to all the staff!!!! Your outfits were a great reminder, and for the ques expected, you proved a brilliant service, well done to you all. £1 mini fish and chips stunning.
