So i didn't eat here, hence the average review. I dropped in after work for a pint as it used to be excellent when Andy ran the bar. Instead I was met at the bar by a moody blonde barmaid (FAO the owners: blonde hair shoulder length, in her 40s, and glasses). She genuinely didn't seem to care about my experience, there wasn't even a "how has your day been?". She then proceeded to stand at the bar on her phone or laptop whilst there were multiple empty glasses on a table. I'm not suggesting she wasn't occupied but I would really hope that someone of her mature age would understand the basics of customer service and professionalism. I was very disappointed as visiting here after work has long been a highlight of my week since the recent owners took it over. Price per person: £10–20 Food: 3 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1

Shout out to Duncan for being a fantastic host, entertaining and personable. We had an amazing visit, really, really nice food, decent portions of meat, cooked perfectly, really good sides and with a bars range of drinks. Seats about 30 in an upstairs dining room full of wood panelling and warm indirect lighting so a really private, exclusive feel. goes for quantity+quality which is so rare to find, normally it's either or but here you really feel like it's value for money and still a good night! The only con we could find was that the lighting could definitely be dimmed a lot in the evening for a nice vibe, but it wasn't 'overly bright'. We had a fantastic time and will definitely be back! Price per person: £30–40 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4 Vegetarian offerings: Not sure Vegetarian options: It's a steak restaurant. Would not recommend for veggies

Always loved the Edith Cavell and now it’s even better. Great atmosphere, good selection of beers, plenty of cocktails on offer. And now, you can go upstairs to their new restaurant CHOP which is a great food experience. Great selection of small plate starters but the main course sharing platters are amazing - what out for the Lamb Chop sharing board with a massive Pok Chop, Baby Back Ribs and chicken wings that were delicious. It’s not cheap but it was worth every penny, well done to Andy & his team - this is a great addition to Tombland and we will definitely be going back soon. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommendation for vegetarians: Somewhat recommend Vegetarian offerings: Vegetarian menu or section
