A Most Stylish Sojourn at Eight Guesthouse, Bath By a Fellow Host (and Occasional Observer of High Society Hospitality) Dear Reader, If one finds oneself in Bath—and one really should—there is a place most elegant and exceedingly well-positioned to lay one’s (well-rested) head. It is called Eight, and it is quite the talk of the townhouses. As someone in the business of guest-wrangling and breakfast-perfecting, I confess: I arrived curious. I departed charmed. Eight is spread across two historic Georgian buildings (naturally—it is Bath, after all), yet inside it dances between modern flair and classic comfort with grace and ease. The bedrooms are tasteful, restful, and ever-so-stylish. Comfortable beds, White Company toiletries, and that all-important sense of calm luxury that whispers, “you’ve chosen well.” No overdone theatrics here—just pure, good hosting. Breakfast, my dear reader, was a triumph. The usual Bath offerings—Full English, Eggs Royale, Florentine, or Benedict—all beautifully done, with a proper coffee menu to boot. As a host myself, I know the attention this takes—and trust me, it shows. The location? Utterly perfect. Right in the heart of the old city, mere steps from The Forum (where I had the distinct pleasure of seeing the fabulous Holly Johnson live—what a night!). A hop, skip and a twirl in the rain and you’re home again, warmed by Georgian walls and thoughtful touches. The welcome was warm, the details well-judged, and the experience—dare I say—worthy of the Ton’s highest praise. So if your travels bring you to Bath (and again, they really should), do consider Eight. It is elegant, cosy, delightfully placed, and, above all, the sort of address one is proud to whisper about in social circles. Stayed there three times now. The welcome is always warm and the staff charming. The food is absolutely fabulous , both breakfast and dinner. Highly recommended and will return soon.

First trip to 8 and absolutely loved it! More like a tapas bar in concept, where you are recommended to have two of the dishes per adult, or more if you wish. Everything comes as complete dishes-so no sides or accompaniments. The food is crafted beautifully on the plates and everything was utterly delicious. Plenty of vegetarian/vegan choices available. Desserts were a work of art. Photos are of 1) scallops with celeriac mash and truffle jus, 2) the menu as on 6/12/22 3) desserts-foreground is mini pavlova with lime curd, passion fruit and summer fruits, in the background is almond cake with poached pear, ginger syrup and pistachio ice cream. A well balanced wine list is offered. We chose the cheapest Malbec and found it excellent and very good value for money. Highly recommended.
