We were not welcomed on arrival and we waited 45 minutes for a cold starter. We had to make multiple requests for a wine list, serving spoons, water and drinks. Water for the dogs never arrived in spite of asking several times. Only one wine list was provided. The waiter was clueless and barely civil.
The food was adequate but no effort had been made to decorate the tables which were laid with paper cloths. My wine was poured short and we had to request a top up.
We were so unhappy that we decided to finish our wine in the garden and take our desserts home. The desserts were meagre and certainly not worth the cost.
Whilst my friend was settling the bill, the manager came over to me and complained about her dogs barking at the pub cat. We had not been told that there would be a cat wandering freely through the restaurant area. The dogs settled quickly once the cat left.
The manager then came over to me and complained that my friend had complained to the staff about the poor service and railed at me.
We duly went into the garden but then had to suffer the lights constantly going out because of a fault. The lighting in the restaurant area was also poor.
This was a dreadful experience. I cannot believe that the manager was so rude as to harangue a customer for their own failings, let alone someone's guest. I was embarrassed for my friend who had made such a generous offer of an evening out which the staff seemed to do their best to ruin.
