I should like to leave a review of a poor experience we had at Gambrinus on the evening of 1 September 2006. We returned to the UK from a motorhome tour of Europe last Wednesday and this is the first opportunity we have had to give our views. Our trip included two visits to Goerlitz, a beautiful historic city I normally enjoy visiting. Ahead of our meal we ordered two half-litres of Pils but the waitress returned with two 0.4 litre glasses. We decided not to make a fuss about it, thinking that she had possibly misheard, but when I ordered a refill I got another 0.4 litre. The main problem came when the bill arrived and we paid cash with a tip but then noticed that we had been charged for three 0.5 litres. We brought this to her attention and she promptly returned the tip, though without suggesting a refund for the overcharging. As we left I noted that that those drinking the beer were all doing so from 0.4 litre glasses: how many others had she ripped off? The amounts of money involved were small of course but that is not the point: customers should only be charged for what they have been served and not given short measures in this way. It left a bad taste in the mouth. We imagine that the hospitality industry is under as much pressure in Germany as it is in the UK but stealing from your customers is not the way to encourage support.
