Staff were exceptionally friendly menu was limited but not a problem as the fish and chips were to die for...Guinness kept very well

Had a trip to Tideswell today and we're very surprised at how quiet it was but still very picturesque and worth a visit. We had checked various pub websites for opening hours etc in the area and decided that Tideswell seemed a great option. The weather turned wet and windy for a short time so we looked for a lovely warm and welcoming pub to have lunch. We struggled to find anywhere that was even open and serving food then we saw the George Inn. It was definitely open and there was a sign in the car park at the front of the pub saying food served all day .........YAY ! When we went in between 1-2 the place was quiet but most of the people in there wanted food. The pub was quite cold with no atmosphere and before we had even bought a drink we heard someone else being told there was no food being served when they went to the bar to ask for menus . Along with most of the other people in the pub we left and ended up over the road at the local chippy while we waited for a bus back to Sheffield. The website said food was served between 12-8?????? The sign in the car park said food was served all day??????? Maybe this isn't the way to attract custom and if you have changed the times you serve food or if you have an issue on a particular day and are unable to offer what you advertise then adding a note to the website or taking the sign in might be helpful. I'm sure you're not bothered but we won't be returning to the George Inn anytime soon. In these difficult times for businesses surely good customer service and word of mouth recommendations are important?
