We’ve celebrated birthdays here on a few occasions with a fairly large group. My son asked us to book again for his birthday. I don’t often leave reviews but the staff are so accommodating, I felt I had to. We’ve never had a bad meal but the pies and fish and chips are outstanding. It’s great value in comparison to other restaurants at the same price point in terms of quality and quantity. Thanks for having us. Price per person: £20–30 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Called in by chance on a Sunday afternoon, you could see the Pub/Restaurant had a good vibe, busy and vibrant, staff were excellent and by good fortune managed to find the two of us a table were the usual suspects had failed to meet their booking. The menu had a good choice for most tastes. We settled for the Sunday lunch. This turned out to be an excellent choice. Fantastic quality beef ,the obligatory Yorkshire pudding, season veg along with roast potatoes and mash, the veg included brocoli, cauliflower and red cabbage with a gravy boat of rich flavoursome gravy . My complements to the kitchen. Price per person: £40–50 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4 Vegetarian offerings: Clearly labeled vegetarian dishes Vegetarian options: Make sure you have a appetite.

Very good standard of Gastro pub food, beautifully presented and tasty menu and huge portions, not for the faint hearted but full on flavour. My wife chose the steak and ale pie which was possibly inspired by Desperate Dan's 'Cow pie' that even the most voracious appetite would be challenged to finish she only managed half of it after having a tasty tomato and basil soup to start which was delicious. I began with beef cheeks which were melt in the mouth and a meal in themselves, this was followed by a Jumbo battered haddock which I'd describe as a close relative of Moby Dick, it was huge and served in a crispy light batter sat on top of dark brown chips a pot of mushy peas, wedge of lemon and tartar sauce, my only suggestion to improve this British classic would be to add beef driving to the vegetable oil as this gives the best original and authentic taste to the batter and chips but I realise that I'm being somewhat picky in pointing this out on what was an excellent evening where everyone in our large party enjoyed everything served. I would highly recommend the George & Dragon to anyone, a word of caution though, make sure you are really hungry in order to do justice to what you are about to receive. We'll be back once again, well done to the staff and management and keep up the good work.
