One non meat option for a party of 4 with 3 non meat eaters is extremely poor, especially when I had informed you we had 3 vegetarians during my booking process. And £44 for 2 courses which HAD to include a main course which consisted of a few pieces of cauliflower and a drizzle of "korma" sauce, and some other assorted veg, is quite simply OUTRAGEOUS!! If you are not interested in catering for non meat eaters you should make this patently clear, not give them ONE choice, take it or leave it, and charge the same for this pathetic offering as for a full Sunday Roast. The overall bill was reduced due to my complaints about this, but I still question the judgement of the management and chef to think this non meat offering and price is even remotely acceptable. Almost unbelievable to be honest. Service: 2

As a small independent business, we work closely with local producers and our menu is intentionally small, seasonal and regularly changing. Our Sunday lunch is centred around the main event, whether that's our roast meat or vegetarian option, and all dishes are served with the same selection of roast potatoes (vegetarian when required) , seasonal greens, star anise carrots, cauliflower cheese and Yorkshire pudding. We appreciate your disappointment regarding the vegetarian choices available on the day. We will certainly take this feedback on board as we continue to review and develop our menus. In terms of pricing, we believe our offering remains competitive with similar Hospitality businesses in the area, particularly given our focus on seasonal ingredients and local sourcing. That said, we're sorry that you did not feel the dish represented good value, despite the reduction applied to your bill during your visit. We appreciate your support of our small independent hospitality businesses and thank you again for your comments.

Fabulous Sunday lunch - the food was perfect and everyone was friendly and attentive, despite being busy. Comfortable chairs in the bar would have been just right for a post lunch snooze! Thank you, we will see you again. Service: 5

We went here for an afternoon Sunday Roast. I can’t fault the waiting staff, they were great... polite, attentive, and helpful. We love a good Sunday Roast and £22 per person seems fair – but when the plates were bought to the table, we were all a little underwhelmed with the two small slices of pork. We are not a greedy, over-fed family, but when one goes for a roast, the meat is usually ‘the main event’. But apparently that’s ‘how it comes’. Fine. (Although, the table next to us also commented to staff on how small the meat serving was.) That said, we got our side dishes, carried on and essentially enjoyed our lunch. When paying, the senior waiter said he had discounted the bill as a 'good will' gesture. Nice, but what we didn’t realise was that the management gave us the discount by simply taking the service/staff tip off. When I approached the waiter to say I didn’t think that was fair for the staff (they weren't at fault), and misleading to us (I would rather have had no discount as we had no cash for tips) – the manager, overhearing our conversation, joined in uninvited and passively aggressively told me that it really is none of my business how they run their business and treat their staff. Then whilst trying to explain that we were initially just a bit miffed at the amount of pork, after much huffing, interrupting, and smirking (from her), she asked me what my ‘actual problem’ was... did we just want to go somewhere that simply serves ‘big piles of food’? A very misjudged and uncalled for response from a manager. We are big advocates for supporting UK pubs and their hard-working staff, whose wages are quite minimal, and at a time when pubs are really struggling and rely more than ever on word-of-mouth, value, and good service, it’s such a shame. We've always previously loved this pub...a great pub in a great location, ruined (in my opinion) by the manager’s patronising, insulting attitude.
