I was served by Jack and Thomas Dillon at the hand in hand. Nay have a more impressive pair of brothers been seen since Agamemnon and Menelaus. Going to the Hand in Hand is not just a trip to the pub, but an Odyssey. The pair of servers understood that hospitality is not just a way to make ends meet, but an ancient and sacred tradition of providing comfort, entertainment and sustenance to those entering their establishment. The Hand does not serve just pints. It serves memories, it serves electricity, it serves the kind of feeling that is a mix of celebration, confession and the final destination of an adventure . In my many many hundred years of reviewing pubs I have never found one to deliver on all criteria in such a way. The venue is a delight and the staff even more so. Jack and Tallis blew my socks clean off with their lightning fast service and English skills. I’m sure I’ll be back tomorrow fetching them socks from the rooftop! And of course a pint while I’m at it!
