We’d heard good things about the Harbour Inn, so we were really looking forward to our visit. Unfortunately, it ended up being quite disappointing. We both ordered the cheeseburger and fries (£19.99 each). The food arrived very quickly, which was great, but it soon became obvious that it had been rushed in the kitchen. The side salad was very poor, just some iceberg lettuce, a few bits of cucumber and a couple of tomatoes. The bigger issue, though, was the burgers. Mine arrived very rare, so I sent it back and asked for it to be cooked medium to well done. I wasn’t asked how I’d like it cooked when ordering, so I hadn’t expected it to arrive that rare. My partner usually likes his burgers on the rarer side, so he carried on eating his, but by the time he got to the middle it was completely raw. At that point he’d lost his appetite and didn’t want to ask for another one. When my replacement burger arrived it was cooked perfectly, so credit where it’s due, but it still looked rather hastily put together. By then I’d also gone past the point of being hungry, so only managed about half of it and left the chips. When our plates were cleared, we explained what had happened. The member of staff we spoke to was genuinely lovely, very apologetic and couldn’t have been nicer. A second member of staff, who I assume was the manager, also came over. He apologised and even commented that he didn’t know why the burgers were being cooked so pink inside, which suggested he agreed they weren’t right. What really disappointed us was that, despite acknowledging there had been a problem with both meals, there was no goodwill gesture at all. We weren’t expecting anything extravagant, but perhaps a round of drinks, a discount, or one of the burgers taken off the bill would have gone a long way. I don’t feel customers should have to ask for goodwill, if a meal hasn’t been right and the staff recognise that, it should be offered by the business. We left having spent over £60 on two burgers and two drinks, and neither of us enjoyed our meal. It’s such a shame because the staff were genuinely friendly and handled the situation well, but the food and the lack of any gesture to put things right meant we left feeling very disappointed.
