Absolutely lovely, food was outstanding, really friendly and accommodating staff, even offered off the menu options to keep a fussy 6 year old happy (as well as giving her a separate serving of pickled onions - apparently these are the best things she's ever eaten!). Looking forward to going back next time we are in the area, and really want to try the tapas on a Wednesday night, the menu looked fab. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Price per person: £50–60 Kid-friendliness: Great, made our little one feel very welcome and special.

My friend and I arrived for lunch on a dreary damp Saturday afternoon. It was lovely and warm inside and the coal fire added a lovely ambience to the bar area where we had our lunch. We were the only customers throughout the whole time we were there. We have eaten in The Holt many times over the years but this time we’re very disappointed, firstly with the menu which was very limited and then the meal came... It looked amazing. A huge piece of battered fish with a little bowl of chips and some pickled salad. When I cut into my batter, there was the most pathetic portion of fish that I have ever had. About three forkfuls. The batter was greasy and virtually inedible unless you like a lot of fat. My friends fish was exactly the same. Needless to say, we were very disappointed. We should’ve complained at the time but didn’t want to spoil our time together. The fish and chips cost us £19 each! This really is not good enough and certainly not up to the standard that we have experienced in the past. What is going on? Food: 1 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Price per person: £40–50
