When I was born Middlesbrough was in the North Riding of Yorkshire where there's nowt so queer as folk. As a bairn (lad) potatoes were 2d a pound, that's 'old' money. There were 240 d's in a £. A portion of cod and chips was 1/3 (or one shilling and thruppence - a little over six pence in 'new' money, which was introduced on 15th, February, 1971, decimalisation day). The reason I mention this is to highlight how cost-effective (cheap!) things were. I ordered my latte and was both shocked (visualisation of my shocked face) and horrified (visualisation of my horrified face) when I was asked to pay £4.85. When I were a lad that sort of dosh would almost be enough to buy a Morris 1000 with a split windscreen, complete with a full tank of petrol . I picked my jaw off the floor and after reading the 'Cash? What's cash?' sign I waved my phone over the thingy and watched as nearly five quid magically floated through the air into the till. I didn't enquire about the cost of the absolutely delicious looking cakes and pastries in case the answer brought on a coronary . I've gotta say that they did look good , sort of homemadey and scrumptious. There were quite a few to choose from, more than the number of fingers and thumb on one of my hands. Bear in mind that I had a coffee in the other one so I was unable to count to ten. Normally I'd remove my shoes and socks to get to higher numbers but Huffkins looks a bit posh so I thought I'd refrain. The three ladies on t'other side of the counter were rather special. Wonderfully helpful and informative, a pleasure to be served by them. Hey Mr. Huffkin! (If that's the owners name), at nearly five quid a cup for my favourite beverii you can afford to gi'em a pay rise! Don't normally 'do' chains but this is only a bit chainy and, tbh (as the youth of today write), it was all rather good. I'm pleased I popped in. Thank you. Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 3 Meal type: Other Price per person: £1–10 Recommendation for vegetarians: Somewhat recommend Vegetarian offerings: Clearly labelled vegetarian dishes Vegetarian options: Vegetarian options may contain vegetables. Dietary restrictions: Can't do any harm to ask, can it? Parking space: Plenty of parking Parking options: Paid street parking Parking: Central 'Nam, on the prom (prom, prom) Kid-friendliness: Children's menu available or just ask for a side plate, put one of your sausages on it, and hope they don't notice. Wheelchair accessibility: Outside seating available. Bit of a step inside (it's an old building!)
