My friends and I are always on the lookout for new restaurants and the latest places everyone is talking about. This month, Island seemed to be the spot for oysters, and since we all love oysters and work across different areas of hospitality, we were excited to give it a try. The venue itself is stunning, and the drinks were genuinely incredible. We normally stop after one round of cocktails, but this time we ordered a second and were very close to getting a third—that says a lot about how much we enjoyed them. Unfortunately, the food didn't quite live up to our expectations. The oysters were decent, but we felt they had been washed a little too much, which took away some of their natural character. That said, it's probably a style that appeals to the majority of guests. We shared a few starters, and sadly none of them impressed us. The biggest disappointment was the scallop hot dog (£15), which was tiny—about the size of a finger—and lacked flavour. The surf rösti also missed the mark; it felt more like the crispy potato bits left at the bottom of the pan, slightly over-fried, with very little "surf" element coming through. We had originally gone specifically to try the mixed fish grill, but after the starters, we decided not to order mains and called it a night. Overall, Island is a beautiful venue with excellent cocktails and a fantastic atmosphere. Sadly, based on our experience, the food didn't match the same standard. We'd happily return for drinks, but we'd need a little more convincing before coming back for dinner. Food: 3 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4 Meal type: Dinner Price per person: £80–90
