Having lived in London for a long time, my expectations for Chinese food aren't actually that high. But this time at kirin Restaurant, I was genuinely pleasantly surprised. The cold dishes arrived solidly right away. The garlic-infused pork belly was refreshing and not greasy; The spicy chicken with numbing spiciness had layers of flavor; The preserved egg tofu was delicate and smooth; The cucumber and jellyfish were crisp and refreshing; The seven-flavor tofu was full of details, not just a random assortment. The Peking duck was what I was most looking forward to. The skin was crispy, the meat firm and tender; Paired with salt and pepper duck carcass and a bowl of warm duck soup, One duck provided three kinds of satisfaction—it was truly a ritual. The hot dishes were all excellent: The pan-fried prawns with soy sauce were very flavorful; The turbot was prepared two ways; The typhoon shelter-style salt and pepper dish was so delicious I wanted to order another bowl of rice. The Wushan grilled fish was spicy and fragrant enough, the cumin lamb had absolutely no gamey taste, the braised pork was so tender it melted in your mouth, and the classic dishes like Kung Pao Chicken, Mapo Tofu, and Three Treasures of the Earth were all excellent. I can only say—absolutely top-notch. For a final main course, I chose black truffle beef fried rice and seafood risotto. One was understated yet luxurious, the other bursting with umami flavor. I was truly satisfied by the end. Overall, this wasn't just "a casual Chinese meal abroad," but a Chinese meal that felt truly special. Whether it's a gathering with friends, a family reunion, or bringing foreign friends for Chinese food, I would definitely recommend kirin Restaurant. One of my favourite Chinese restaurants in the City of London. I’ve been coming here for years and the quality has always been consistently good. The food is authentic, well-presented, and full of flavour. The roast duck is a must-try – crispy skin, tender meat, and packed with flavour. The Sichuan dishes are also excellent, especially the boiled fish and Mapo tofu, which have the perfect balance of spice and aroma. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with beautiful traditional Chinese décor that makes you feel at home. The staff are always friendly, attentive, and happy to help with recommendations. A great place for business lunches, family dinners, or gatherings with friends. They even have private rooms and KTV facilities for larger groups. Highly recommended if you’re looking for authentic Chinese food in London’s financial district. I’ll definitely be back again!
