The 2 stars are really for the food options you're allowed to have (read further down). Really nice place for fish/pie & chips. Excellent quality food. Other food options are available and a great choice of desserts which were also great quality. MY ONLY COMPLAINT (and it's a big one for me) was the pies automatically come with peas and gravy. I hate peas and asked for them to be swapped for baked beans which wasn't a problem....BUT... you're not then allowed to have the free gravy that came with the peas because someone somewhere decided gravy and beans don't go together. I'd say let the customer decide if they want the gravy or not. I wanted it for the chips and pie - not to cover the beans. Anyway they weren't for backing down and I had to order a side order of gravy....it felt more of a scam to get another £2.20 out of me for what turned out to be quite a small portion of gravy. It's quite expensive for a chippy and I'm sure they could let you have the gravy they are giving you free with the peas rather than the owner making the decision for you. Because of this I'd probably go to one of the other nearby chippies next time. First time visit to Bells Fish and Chips. The chips were the best I've ever had and the battered cod was spot on.
