I’ve been lucky enough to visit some fantastic bakeries around the UK, but this one remains my absolute favourite. Everything is made with incredible attention to detail, from the beautifully baked sourdough to the pastries that somehow manage to look as good as they taste. The quality is consistently outstanding, and you can genuinely tell how much passion goes into every single product. The coffee is always excellent, the team are welcoming and friendly, and there’s such a lovely atmosphere every time I visit. Whether it’s a quick coffee, a pastry, or taking home a loaf of sourdough, it’s a place I keep coming back to. If you appreciate proper artisan baking, this bakery is worth going out of your way for. An absolute gem and, in my opinion, one of the very best bakeries in the South West Price per person: £10–20 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

If you are looking for the best pastries in Exeter—and honestly, potentially the best you’ll find anywhere—Lilac Bakery is a must-visit. I’ve traveled to cities and countries famous for their baking traditions, and the two pastries I had here genuinely topped them all. The quality is fantastic; you can tell there is immense skill and care behind every fold of dough. I paired mine with a great green tea, which was the perfect accompaniment. It's the first time I have visited the bakery having heard about it from someone on a walk around the canal. I am so impressed by the decor and atmosphere and the coffee is excellent.
Next visit I shall have one of the yummy cookies with my coffee.
