A little Italian food disappointment at Lucca in Manningtree… . I ordered the “La Panzanella”, and unfortunately it wasn’t what I expected at all. For anyone who doesn’t know, traditional Panzanella is a Tuscan dish made with stale bread that is softened with water and then combined with tomatoes, cucumber, red onion, basil, olive oil and vinegar. The bread is an essential part of the dish — soft, rustic and soaked with all those beautiful flavours. It’s definitely not just a normal salad with a few crunchy croutons on top. When I received this, I honestly felt like I had been served an ordinary salad with croutons. There were only around five little pieces of bread on my plate. I kindly asked the waiter if he could pass my message to the chef, explaining that, as an Italian, this wasn't really what I know as Panzanella. I even asked if I could have some more bread to make the dish closer to what I was expecting… unfortunately, nothing extra came. The arancini were simple but yummy, and I have to say the pizza was excellent! So it wasn't all disappointing! But I do think that when choosing the name of a traditional dish, it’s important to respect what that dish actually is. Otherwise, you can create a completely different expectation for a guest — especially for an Italian who grew up knowing these dishes. Maybe call it a “Panzanella-style salad” instead? . Very very disappointed in the food and how it came out , took gf for a birthday meal went to lucca as heard good things but very disappointed in how it looked when came out and the flavour, we had the sealed prawns with garlic and calamari literally couldn't taste a single bit off garlic the prawns had no flavour at all , and also we had the bruschette it was so soggy and just covered with rocket as u can see in pic,the mains we had pizza you couldn't pick the pizza up as it just fell apart the crust was lovely have to say but trying to pick it up was a disaster!!also had the spaghetti gambari in the pic it looks like it's just been chucked on with the rocket and I took loads off more rocket off aswell , wouldn't go back as the food was very poor ,it felt like they had a junior chef on learning his trade as it was a week day ,so many mistakes and how the food came was literally embarrassing felt it was just chucked on..
