I used the paid cloakroom service at Maddox Club. When my coat was returned, my Canon camera, stored in a deep, enclosed inner pocket, was damaged. The camera was returned separately from the coat, despite having been secured inside it beforehand, indicating it was removed while under the club’s control. When I turned it on right after It was visibly damaged and it took it to a specialist where they confirmed physical damage due to a fall. As this occurred during a paid service, the club owed a clear duty of care for my property. After months of correspondence and repeated claims of “investigation,” responsibility was denied without evidence. I am now seeking other venues to take action with a view to pursuing recovery for negligence and loss. I would strongly caution others against leaving valuables with this venue. Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1 Price per person: £100+

Hi Edvin,Thank you for your review.As we already discussed with you directly, we carried out a full investigation at the time, including reviewing CCTV footage from the cloakroom area.The footage clearly shows that only a coat was handed to our cloakroom attendant. No camera was presented separately at the time of check-in. When your belongings were returned to you, the coat was handed back in the same manner it was received. The suggestion that a camera was handed back separately after being removed by staff is not supported by the CCTV.For clarity, clear signage is displayed at the cloakroom desk advising guests not to leave valuables inside garments and stating that items are left at the owner’s risk. This is standard practice across licensed venues.While we understand your frustration, there is no evidence of negligence on the part of the venue, and we therefore cannot accept liability in this matter.Should you wish to provide any new information, management remains available via direct contact.Thank you The Maddox club team
