Our server Nancy was also very friendly, attentive, and professional. Nancy’s service was excellent, and we felt very welcomed throughout our visit. Our families and my friends had a wonderful experience at Makimono Sushi Bar & Restaurant! The food was fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented. There was a great variety of sushi and hot dishes, and everything we tried was flavorful and satisfying. We really enjoyed our meal and would definitely come back again. Highly recommended! We came here to celebrate my son’s birthday, expecting a pleasant family dinner. Instead, what should have been a special evening turned into an extraordinarily unpleasant and humiliating experience. We arrived at approximately 9:45 PM. From the moment we sat down, our waitress, Nancy, made it abundantly clear that she wanted us out. We were rushed to place our order, rushed through our meal, and repeatedly told “last order, last order.” Before we had even finished eating, she brought the bill and began attempting to clear our table while we were still eating. When we asked for additional food — at an ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT restaurant — she simply refused. If the kitchen was closing or AYCE orders were no longer being accepted, that should have been clearly communicated BEFORE seating us and accepting our payment. You cannot charge customers full AYCE prices and then arbitrarily restrict the service once they are seated. But the situation became even more disturbing when it came time to pay. We were pressured to leave a tip despite the exceptionally poor service we had received. A tip is discretionary; it should never be something a customer feels coerced into giving. What happened next was particularly inappropriate. Nancy went over to my niece and my son and took/snapped the iPad from my son’s hands while we were dealing with the payment. The manner in which this was handled was completely unnecessary and deeply uncomfortable. And despite everything that had happened, there was not even a basic apology from Nancy. Not for rushing us. Not for refusing additional food. Not for trying to clear our table while we were still eating. Not for the way the payment and tip were handled. Not for the interaction involving my son. And certainly not for ruining what was supposed to be his birthday celebration. To make matters worse, Nancy could be heard shouting and yelling in the kitchen, loudly enough to be audible throughout the restaurant. This is not the atmosphere customers should have to endure while paying to enjoy a family meal. The entire evening conveyed one unmistakable message: Our money was welcome. We were not. And the food certainly does not justify tolerating this kind of treatment. It was decidedly average — nothing remotely exceptional that would compensate for such deplorable service. If you are closing, stop seating customers. If you are accepting customers at 9:45 PM, then provide them with the service they have paid for. This was not simply a case of “bad service.” It was a fundamental failure of hospitality, professionalism, and respect for customers. An AYCE restaurant should not rush customers, refuse them additional food, attempt to clear their table before they have finished, pressure them during payment, and make a child’s birthday celebration feel like an inconvenience. Absolutely unacceptable. Deeply disappointing. We came to celebrate a birthday and left feeling frustrated, unwelcome and completely dissatisfied. We will never return, and based on this experience, I would strongly caution others against choosing this establishment for a family celebration or special occasion. Slow terrible service, hair in food, wait staff dropped hot food on me and there was no compensation for the mess. I complained to manager who discounted the bill by 20% which did not even cover the cost of my meal. Not worth the hassle or the length of time it took to get our meal.
