Our recent visit to the Mandarin Hotel Schiff left us deeply disappointed and utterly dismayed by the shocking level of unprofessionalism and disrespect exhibited by the staff, particularly our waiter. What should have been a pleasant lunchtime dining on Chinese cuisine turned into a regrettable encounter marred by appalling behavior and discriminatory remarks. From the outset, it was evident that something was amiss. Despite the promising ambiance of the Mandarin Hotel Schiff, our experience quickly soured due to the conduct of our waiter. His demeanor was not only rude but also reeked of prejudice and sexism. The litany of grievances we experienced during our meal was nothing short of astonishing. Our waiter took it upon himself to criticize our food and drink choices in a manner that was both condescending and unwarranted. His treatment of other patrons was equally distressing, as he openly berated a lady who dared to voice dissatisfaction with her order and silenced another woman for engaging in harmless conversation. However, what truly appalled us were the waiter's blatantly sexist and racist remarks. He made derogatory comments towards my wife and even went as far as to label a couple as "bloody Swiss" when they innocently inquired about their drinks. Such overt discrimination has no place in any establishment, let alone one of supposed repute like the Mandarin Hotel Schiff. Moreover, the waiter's authoritarian behavior was perplexing and utterly uncalled for. Despite the restaurant being nearly empty, he adamantly refused to accommodate a couple's request to move tables, displaying a level of inflexibility that bordered on absurdity. In light of our experience, I cannot in good conscience recommend dining at the Mandarin Hotel Schiff. Until there is a complete overhaul of the management and staff, patrons seeking Chinese cuisine in Breisach would be wise to explore other dining options. It is my sincere hope that this review serves as a wake-up call for the establishment to address its glaring deficiencies and strive for the level of excellence that its patrons deserve.
