I was met and greeted by a super friendly, sprightly, welcoming Bulgarian woman, Velichka, from behind the counter at this Syrian family bakery right adjacent to a small very good quality shawarma restaurant run by the same family. She works ever so efficiently to produce top shelf quality pastries. These two food outlets are located kitty corner to a high calibre Arab supermarket with a great butcher with superb cuts of meat. In any event, having a need for some snacks especially for our two teenagers with insatiable appetites, I thought I’d give this bakery a go. The signage outside showing their pastries convinced me to go on in. Once inside, a quick look at the menu and across the counter seeing everything was freshly baked, I placed my order. It was a little bit of a wait- 30 minutes - but well worth it seeing these ever so tempting fresh out of the oven pastries as they were gently placed in the takeaway boxes. Soon after arriving home, my 14-year-old son opened the box and yelled up “hey Dad, these look really good!” The 34 pastries including mini pizzas, stuffed spinach and cheesy herb boats were gone in a couple of days – proof positive, a sure sign that Manooshti is worth the very reasonable price of 2 dollars per pastry. Each bite into this soft dough is absolutely delicious. Your kids will really appreciate this great treat! A little time in the microwave can bring back that out of the oven freshness!
