After choosing The Manor Inn to watch the first premier league game of the season, I left virtually bankrupt. We only decided to visit for some drinks, brought our own games and to watch the Arsenal vs Coventry match which was advertised outside. Also drawn in by the play area as we had children age 7 and 11 with us. The pool table was very tired, no chalk and I could have played against a toddler and lost as the balls ran all down one end of the table. Table football was 50p a go and provided some lights entertainment for 2 minutes. Decent size screen in the coach house. Although, the decor was also very tired. Had to ask 5 times between us and another table to get the sound on for the match. Th play area was small but accommodated the 7year old. The price of things was frankly embarrassing. I ordered a pint of lager shandy, a thatchers zero and a lemonade and lime and it was over £16. Later I ordered a pint of lager and a lemonade and lime, paid with a £20note and was gobsmacked to be handed a £5 note and some change in return. I asked how much the soft drink was and it was £4.90!!! For a lemonade and lime. Once I picked myself up from the floor I went to source some chips for my pregnant wife. £7!!!!!!!!!! For a portion of curly fries. When it was dropped off I had to ask the man for sauce which arrived in some minuscule sachets. With £20 I was only able to purchase 2 drinks and a portion of curly fries. The food looked amazing as we walked through the restaurant but goodness knows what people were paying for it.

We were really disappointed with our visit. Of the six dishes ordered, two had to be returned — one for a hygiene issue and another for poor quality. The mashed potato was dry and powdery, and when we asked for olive oil to improve it, we were given an unmarked pot of vegetable oil instead. More seriously, one dish arrived with a dead house fly in the mash, which is obviously unacceptable. The waiting staff handled the situation professionally and were apologetic, but the bar manager’s response was hostile and made the experience even more uncomfortable. There were some positives — the servers were kind and tried their best — but overall the food and the way the complaint was handled by the bar manager fell well below what we’d expect.
