Every restaurant has difficult guests. And then there are restaurateurs. We are probably the worst. We don’t go out for dinner. We go on inspection. Before sitting down, we’ve already checked the lighting, table spacing, glassware, music, uniforms and probably calculated the approximate labour cost. We haven’t even ordered yet, and somewhere in our heads an Excel spreadsheet is already open. Charming, aren’t we? And of course, we arrived with the confidence of people who have seen everything, eaten everything and would obviously have done everything slightly better ourselves. Our expectations were simple: “Go on then. Impress us.” Culinary revolvers loaded. Eyebrows ready to rise. Professional arrogance at operating temperature. We sat down. Slightly smug. Dangerously opinionated. And basically already full. Then the first course arrived. Silence. Second course. More silence. Third course. Still nothing. At some point we looked at each other with genuine concern. “Have you found anything yet?” “No.” “Me neither.” Disaster. The food was excellent. Not “interesting.”. Not “ambitious.”. Not the diplomatic restaurateur version of “very nice concept.” Actually excellent. Every course made sense. Beautiful ingredients, precise execution, great balance and — annoyingly — everything tasted exactly as good as it looked. We desperately searched for something unnecessary on the plate. Nothing. Fine. Let’s attack the wine. Another mistake. The wines were beautifully chosen, perfectly matched and made the menu even better. Our internal sommeliers quietly resigned. Only one department remained: Service. Surely someone would forget something. A glass left empty? No. Bad timing? No. Too formal? No. Too casual? Also no. Instead, the team moved through the evening like a well-rehearsed orchestra: professional, warm, relaxed and always there at exactly the right moment. Frankly, it was becoming irritating. Our carefully prepared criticism was collapsing course by course. Eventually, we had to put the revolvers back in their holsters and accept the humiliating truth: We were simply having a fantastic evening. No operational analysis. No clever suggestions. Not even the sacred restaurateur sentence: “If this were my place, I would…” Nothing. Just excellent food, superb wine, wonderful service and an atmosphere that made us forget — temporarily — that we were supposed to know everything. Final verdict: Food: nothing to complain about. Wine: nothing to complain about. Service: nothing to complain about. Atmosphere: nothing to complain about. Absolutely unacceptable. We’ll have to come back and investigate further. Mission Criticism: complete failure. Mission Dinner: spectacular success. And my wonderful company? Unfortunately, she was excellent too. A thoroughly disappointing evening for two people who came prepared to complain. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Meal type: Dinner Price per person: £100+

I recently had a dinner experience at Mosimann’s by an invitation from a good friend and their Celebrity Pastry Chef Mr Madhukar Thapa. Excellent members only restaurant located in a beautifully restored church in Belgravia, the venue itself sets the stage for an evening of understated luxury. Their hospitality makes you feel like a valued guest rather than just another diner. Mosimann’s delivers on its promise of fine dining with an air of exclusivity. The setting, service, and culinary execution make for a memorable evening. Those who appreciate tradition, elegance, and seamless hospitality, Mosimann's is a special place that leaves a lasting impression. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
