The Wyck Recommendation: Mozy's Charcoal (Liberty Village) Rating: 3.9/5 Alo Pedigree, Nowhere to Sit Intro Scene Twenty years split between French Laundry, Quince, and Alo teaches a chef exactly one thing that matters here: restraint. So when Barbode Soudi opened a chicken counter named after his dad, the surprise wasn't the menu. It's that he didn't dress it up. I know what real Levantine cooking tastes like because a friend's wife, Lena, spent a decade proving to me that most labneh in this city is lying to you. Mozy's didn't lie. What Was Ordered Full chicken, whole platter, split three ways between me, my dad, and my sister, in a space that seats maybe four people who like each other a lot. The dark meat came black-charred where it counted and juice-soaked where it didn't, the kind of contrast that means somebody watched the fire instead of trusting a timer. Shishitos beside it, blistered enough to have opinions. Rice under a heap of crispy onions, doing more work than a side should. Two sauces, coriander lime and garlic, neither one optional. The actual move: fork through sauce, pepper, meat, and rice together, one bite. Eat them separately and you're just having chicken. Smoked labneh under nigella seeds passed the Lena test without flinching. Tahini cookies closed it out, dense enough to feel homemade in the way that actually means something. Service Commentary Nobody at the pass slowed down for us, and nobody rushed us either. One guy, ponytail, built like he eats what he cooks, handled a family-sized order on a first visit without missing a beat. That's not hospitality theater. That's just competence, unbothered. Vibe Check Three grown adults and a whole chicken, crammed into a room sized for a couple on a first date. We stayed anyway. Containers everywhere, elbows touching, nobody minding. That's not ambiance, that's just what happens when the food's worth the inconvenience. The Space Itself Rose-tiled counter, ductwork left exposed instead of hidden, three menu boards stacked where one storefront sign used to be enough. A "Line This Way" sign pointed at nobody the day I went. Everything here reads like a kitchen first, a dining room a distant second . About the Neighborhood Liberty Village doesn't ask for much beyond fast and honest, condo towers cycling through people who want dinner solved without a production. Mozy's inherited the old Liberty Shawarma footprint and kept its DNA: counter-service, no ceremony, in and out. What it added was a decade of tasting-menu discipline nobody around here asked for but everybody's now benefiting from. Except three days a week, when the answer is just no. Genuinely unhinged business decision for a neighborhood built on convenience. The chicken talks me out of being mad about it, but it shouldn't have to. Hits & Misses A résumé built for tasting menus, priced for a chicken shop Whole platter genuinely fed three adults Labneh that earned a real comparison, not a compliment The sauce-pepper-meat-rice combo, mandatory, not optional Closed Sunday through Tuesday, a real gap in a neighborhood built on convenience Seating for two in a room that regularly needs to hold more Final Verdict He chose discipline over convenience. The neighborhood works around his hours, not the other way around. We stood, we ate, we left full. That's the whole deal. Perfect For A family order you're willing to stand for. Anyone who's had a Lena in their life and needs the labneh to prove itself. Meal type: Lunch Price per person: CA$60–70 Recommended dishes: Full Chicken Meal

Mozy's has been a fantastic addition to the Liberty Village community. After hearing about it from my barber and several friends, I finally decided to give it a try, and now I completely understand what all the hype is about. This Iranian-inspired restaurant specializes in charcoal-grilled chicken, and the quality really stands out. I ordered the half chicken with rice, which also came with fresh pita and a dipping sauce on the side. The chicken was juicy, tender, and packed with smoky flavor from the charcoal grill. It had that perfect balance of being well-seasoned while still letting the quality of the chicken shine through. One of the highlights was trying the different sauces. I had the charred pepper sauce and the coriander sauce, and both were excellent in their own way. The charred pepper sauce added a nice depth and subtle smokiness, while the coriander sauce was my favorite thanks to its bright, fresh flavor that paired beautifully with the grilled chicken. The rice was fluffy and flavorful, making it the perfect base for the meal, while the warm pita was great for soaking up the sauces and rounding everything out. Service was quick and efficient, especially considering I stopped by around lunchtime on a Saturday. The staff kept things moving while still making the experience feel welcoming. If you're in Liberty Village and looking for something different from the usual lunch spots, Mozy's is absolutely worth a visit. Great food, generous portions, and flavors that keep you coming back for more. I'll definitely be returning to work my way through the rest of the menu. Get prepared to stand in a line, regardless of the time. I came before opening and had to wait (luckily it was less than 30 min). The platter was delicious and I loved the fries and labneh. The chicken was great, however I would love it if there was more seasoning or spice but overall it was a good meal! Meal type: Lunch Price per person: CA$20–30 Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
