Good coffee (though the cold brew had a slight film and floaties on top) and good carrot cake (might be a touch sweet and a bit dry for some, but overall it had good flavor). There are several places to sit (right at front window, in a back room with a couch, or downstairs where it looked like the "long term" people hang out with their laptops (it felt a little crowded, dark and short ceilinged down there so I'd suggest the front window or the back couch area). Also, it's a bit hard to park so we almost skipped it but we finally found a spot. Overall a nice visit. Meal type: Other Price per person: £1–10 Food: 4 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 5

Hi Alexandra, thanks so much for visiting and for the thoughtful review. I'm glad you enjoyed the coffee and cake overall. Just to reassure you on the cold brew: a slight surface sheen or a few tiny particles can be completely natural. Cold brew is made by steeping ground coffee for many hours, and coffee naturally contains oils and fine solids, so a small amount can remain even after filtration. It isn’t a sign that anything is wrong with the drink. That said, presentation matters to us, so we’ll keep an eye on filtration and batch clarity to make sure every glass looks as good as it tastes. Thanks also for the notes on the seating and parking. We know parking nearby can be a bit hit-or-miss, especially approaching a bank holiday weekend, so we’re grateful you stuck with it and came in. I was on holiday in North Wales a couple of weeks ago and, like many visitors to Rhayader, made the mistake of stopping at the café in the town centre first. After being served a second coffee that tasted worse than the one I’d just asked them to redo, I then Googled "best coffee in Rhayader" and thankfully found Narrative. The difference was night and day. The 2 gent baristas were friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about coffee. I was offered a choice of beans and asked about my preferred flavour profile, which is exactly what any speciality coffee lover wants to hear. The iced latte was excellent, and I also picked up a box of beans as a gift. Great coffee, great service, and a genuine understanding of what makes a coffee shop stand out.
