The Nevison Country Inn - situated on Plank Lane Leigh Lancashire. This quaint pub changed management around 12/13 years ago and is situated near the Leeds-Liverpool canal. Family-owned offering a wide range of pub favorites, and selection of 'Specials', with all courses being freshly made, with good sized portions that are genuinely very tasty. Menu items, brought from their last pub, include Cow Pie, a lovely home made steak pie pastry crust topping made with succulent steak pieces covered with a tasty beef gravy. Also there is a larger than normal home made steak pudding in suet pastry. I love the peppercorn sauce which they make up themselves and can adjust to make it stronger tssting, as well as a range of other sauces. Around Christmas and special events there are often two and three course menus with good quality food and a range of alternative starters, mains and desserts, also including a vegetarian choice, all at very competitive prices and generous helpings. There is a pleasant beer garden which suits walkers who may be wandering along the Leeds-Liverpool canal or visiting the marina just up the road a little way. A good variety of beers, Lagers and of course Guinness is available together with soft drinks at very good prices. The staff are hard working, always nice and pleasant, and booking is very often advisable to ensure a place. I regularly visit the Nevison and if my number in the party exceeds three or four I often place orders with them in advance which helps with the arrangements on the day for quick service and guaranteed menu choice for each and every person. At Christmas I often book a meal/evening for my children and grandchildren so that we can celebrate together as a family, which is my Christmas present to them, and we've celebrated weddings, special occasions and birthdays many times. The layout of the venue enables allows for groups to be sat in a room of their own, if required with sufficient numbers. My family enjoy a good roast beef or chicken dinner, fish, chips and mushy peas supper, a tasty gammon steak with fried eggs or pineapple ('made the way mother used to make it') and my favorite a nice sirloin steak, medium no blood, with battered onion rings slightly stronger pepper sauce and choice of garnish! Sticky toffee pudding and custard to follow yummy! Price per person: £20–30
