Four of us got to try the new restaurant, Nirai, heading there just before the England World Cup match kicked off. We ordered the Apollo fish and Mangalorean chicken ghee roast as starters. For mains, we had the Kothu parotta with Nilgiri mutton curry, the Karaikudi prawn masala, and a side of chicken fried rice. Deepika looked after us very well. The atmosphere was decent, and the food is tasty. Portion size are small and pricey. Price per person: £20–30

Excellent food and great service at Nirai Restaurant and Kitchen. The floor staff member, Deepika, was especially friendly, attentive, and made our visit even more enjoyable. I visited Nirai Reading recently and, unfortunately my experience was disappointing. The food quality was not up to expectations. The dosa seemed overcooked and I did not enjoy the sambar. The service was also very slow I had to wait around 45 minutes before receiving my food. I have eaten at many South Indian restaurants, including Tamila and others where the food quality, service, and pricing have generally been much better. Based on my personal experience, this was one of the least satisfactory South Indian restaurant visits I have had. Before visiting, I would recommend checking a variety of reviews rather than relying only on positive ones. Reading different customer experiences can help set realistic expectations. This review reflects my personal experience during my visit.
