Been here several times and never disappoints! Drinks at a reasonable price, the owner Steve is so kind! Me and my friend wanted to go to the crafthouse but it was full so we came here and Steve said we could order food and eat it in the northern social instead. The atmosphere is amazing and great customer service Price per person: £20–30 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

More like Northern-not-so-Social. Had decided to try this place for the first time for food, drinks and games yesterday (Saturday) evening with my friends. We rocked up around 9pm but never even got in as there was a sign outside saying the whole place was booked up for a private event and therefore closed. Apparently it was someone's 90year old birthday party. Not the kind of vibe I was expecting at all but more importantly- there was absolutely no mentioning of this anywhere on their website and when I had tried to book a table, the page just directed me to an error page, obviously a broken link. The place also appeared mostly empty for this event, with more than half of the tables empty and lots of room for other people but somehow northern-not-so-social-unless-you're-a-90-year-old-local had decided to close the entire venue to the general public. On a saturday, the only day they probably even get people in there. I've gone past it many times and it always looks more or less empty even on weekends. I've felt bad for them but won't be anymore.

Hiya John! Appreciate your feedback and we are truly sorry we disappointed you last night! We were fully booked for a private event last night, and this closure was shared in advance on our Socials (sorry you missed this) as well as signage at the venue. We are proud to cater for all types of milestone birthdays, celebrations and events at Northern Social as well as regular live music nights, quiz nights and many sporting events. Private bookings are occasionally part and parcel of running a hospitality venue and event space, we appreciate it can be frustrating at times and we do try to give as much notice as possible- however the implication we should open to the public during these events is just not realistic I'm afraid. Also, thanks for drawing attention to the broken link (working on that!) Just to note we only take bookings for parties of 8 or more, any less is more than welcome to walk in any time - unless there's a private party ;) We do hope to see you soon, Northern-we-are-quite-social-if-you-give-us-a-chance! :)

Went in for sunday lunch on Sunday 15th. The food was really amazing. Proper homecooked. The roast lamb was huge and so tender. Mashed potato really creamy. Thoroughly recommend Price per person: £10–20 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
