I went with a colleague to try Obento. He ordered the sushi and I ordered a chicken teriyaki bento meal. We were given are commentary soups and were told to sit upstairs. The sushi arrived first, almost instantly. This is to be expected from a cold serve item. But after 15 minutes, my colleague had already eaten half of his sushi, and I remained chickenless. Finally the box came: I did not care for the salad or the dumpling things. Both didn’t have much flavour and aren’t worth discussing further. The chicken itself was sinuous. Skin still on and fat a plenty. There were a few decent pieces in there, which combined with the teriyaki sauce and flavourful rice made for a decent bite. But overall I was disappointed. What didn’t help was the lack of utensils. I know as a westerner I am meant to conform to using the chopsticks, but I simply lack the dexterity and don’t care to improve it. It would have been nice to be supplied with a fork and knife ( I think they had only one instead of both).
