Superb dinner tonight at Olive Tree after a slightly bracing uphill climb in beautiful Bath! From start to finish, everything was flavourful, well-presented and particularly impressive because the menu was not one I would generally order yet still appealed to my tastes start to finish. After a very tasty piece of brioche with pâté, I started with veal sweetbread, which I would never normally choose and generally find quite unpleasant. But with a rich sauce and a very crispy outer layer, all the elements I find unpleasant were counterbalanced and the dish was a delight. Then I had duck, not just sliced but in sausage form, and this somewhat surprising way of serving the dish gave it textural complexity, particularly with a variety of vegetables. Though my one point of feedback would be there was a little too much corn, slightly unbalancing the main dish. Finally we had a strawberry dessert with a little custard and perfect little meringue pieces. Throughout, the service was excellent and I liked the contrast between the polished serving staff and the earnest chefs when they explained the dishes to us. A gem I'd definitely come back to. I have nothing bad to say about the food or service. The decor was very grounded, and I'd prefer a little more modern flair, but certainly it didn't get in the way of an excellent and memorable meal. We had such a wonderful experience at Olive Tree Restaurant and wanted to say a special thank you to the amazing team who made it so memorable. Executive Chef Chris and Head Chef Jake created an incredible meal – every dish was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. You can really taste the passion and care that goes into the food. A special mention also to Jack, the Head of Restaurant, whose warm welcome and attention to detail made us feel so looked after from start to finish. It’s those little touches – checking everything was perfect, the friendly conversations, and the genuine hospitality – that made the evening feel extra special. And a big well done to Alfie, who is new to the team. He was friendly, attentive, and a real credit to the restaurant. It’s lovely to see such enthusiasm and care from someone just starting out. Meal type: Dinner Price per person: £100+
